The School of Engineering is comprised of 5 academic departments that offer 9 bachelors, 12 masters, and 9 doctoral degrees. More than 1000 undergraduates and 600 graduate students are enrolled, and there are 159 faculty and 35 faculty advisors, staff advisors, and tutors.
The School is situated in Albuquerque, a dynamic metropolitan city with a wide array of cultures, diverse entertainment, lots of sunshine, as well as numerous opportunities for internships and employment in local high tech companies.
Students interested in engineering or computer science initially enroll in UNM, then get on the fast-track to engineering or computer science in the pre-major program, where they receive advisement, tutoring, and mentoring from Engineering Student Services. Incoming freshmen can get a jump start on engineering, math or science by attending the 4-week residential Freshman Summer Bridge Program.
UNM's proximity to national laboratories offers an unparalleled opportunity for students to participate in world-class research at Sandia National Laboratories, Kirtland Air Force Base, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Idaho National Laboratory, and at many local high tech companies.
