Faculty member receives pilot award for Engineering-Health Sciences Center partnership

Achraf Noureddine, a research assistant professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at UNM, has received a pilot award from the Center for Metals in Biology and Medicine in the UNM Health Sciences Center.
The $25,000 award establishes a relationship between the surface chemistry of nanoparticles and their body distribution. The project emphasizes the contributions of chemical and biological engineering graduate student Angelea Maestas-Olguin and undergraduate biochemistry student Chuzube Edeh, as well as Xiang Xue, assistant professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the School of Medicine.
Noureddine said the ultimate the goal of the project is fostering collaborations between the School of Engineering and the Health Sciences Center.
The Center for Metals in Biology and Medicine is a National Institute of General Medical Sciences Center of Biomedical Research Excellence funded by a five-year grant. Current projects funded by the center focus on the advancement of research on metals interactions in biology and environmental health.
