Khraishi Named ASME Fellow
February 3, 2011
UNM Professor of Mechanical Engineering Tariq Khraishi has been named a Fellow by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the highest membership grade bestowed by the Society. “It is truly a distinction to be recognized by a society with such a great tradition as the ASME," said Khraishi. "I'm honored to be elected to the grade of Fellow of the Society.”
Khraishi was recognized for his research, teaching and service. He has 100+ refereed papers, including many in journals such as “Nature,” “ASME Journal of Biomechanical Engineering,” and “ASME Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology.” He is an internationally recognized researcher in the study of dislocation dynamics/theory and of mandibular fractures/fixation. Khraishi also serves on the editorial board of several journals including being the Editor-in-Chief for the International Journal of Theoretical and Applied Multiscale Mechanics.
Khraishi’s work has resulted in patents, book chapters and books, including his new book with Marwan Al-Haik, professor Engineering Science and Mechanics at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University titled “Experiments in Materials Science and Engineering." The book is now used in mechanical engineering classes at UNM as part of the curriculum.
The Fellow Grade recognizes significant engineering achievements and contributions to the engineering profession.
