In Memorium: Raymond Plotkin
November 13, 2009
The UNM School of Engineering is deeply saddened by the death of freshman engineering student Raymond Plotkin.
A graduate of Westbury High School in Houston, Texas, Raymond was interested in the field of Nuclear Engineering. He was a conscientious student who had already exhibited an understanding of the dedication required to achieve excellence in the engineering profession.
Reading a paper that he recently wrote, I was impressed by his enthusiasm, maturity and introspection. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and those at UNM who had come to know him.

Family Establishes Scholarship to Honor Memory of Raymond Plotkin
12-16-09 -- When the freshman from Houston, Texas came to UNM, he thought he had found a home. Raymond Plotkin started class in August 2009 as a freshman interested in Chemical and Nuclear Engineering. He enjoyed his roommates and living in a dorm as part of the Engineering Living Learning Community. On November 11, Raymond died suddenly from the H1N1 flu. Now his family is creating an endowment to sponsor scholarships for engineering students through the UNM Foundation.
