Honor’s College Professor, Ryan Swanson
and UNM Baseball Coach, Ray Birmingham
Take me out to the Ballgame! UNM Coach Ray Birmingham and Professor Ryan Swanson from the Honors College share their love of the game and history of the sport with an evening of baseball trivia: Who threw out the first pitch? Which U.S. President hated baseball? Why is it called the World Series? Women playing Baseball? Baseball on the White House lawn?
There will be activities for kids and kids at heart: running bases, tracking pitch speeds with radar and viewing the new batting cage facility. UNM baseball players will demonstrate pitching styles: screwballs, change ups, curve balls, sliders, and cutters, and will be available to throw and catch with the kids and sign autographs. People will be able to wonder around the baseball field, the new batting cage and sit and eat typical ballpark food at tables placed on the baseball field.
